V-DAY, IF YOU’RE INTO THAT
Valentine’s Day has come and gone, and perhaps there weren’t as many themed episodes as in a typical year due to weekly broadcast TV still rebounding from the strikes… But if you’re in the mood for some romantic content, you can check out the Valentine’s special podcast we made a couple years back talking about key episodes from our favorite TV romances.
Premieres this week included The New Look on Apple TV+, Season 3 of Resident Alien on SyFy, Season 3 of Ghosts, Season 2 of Fire Country, and Season 14 of Blue Bloods on CBS, The Vince Staples Show on Netflix, and Season 2 of Life & Beth on Hulu. This weekend will also bring Season 22 of American Idol on ABC, Season 3 of CSI: Vegas and Season 4 of The Equalizer on CBS, and Season 11 of Last Week Tonight on HBO.
TV NEWS
Samuel L. Jackson has voiced a desire for a Disney+ Star Wars show focusing on his character, Mace Windu. After emphatically proclaiming “HE’S NOT DEAD!!!” in response to Windu’s very apparent death scene in the films, Jackson responded to a question about a potential series on the character with enthusiasm. There’s no official word from decision-makers about producing such a series yet, but if Samuel L. Jackson’s on board… seems like a slam dunk, no?
Season 2 of The Last of Us has started filming. Kaitlyn Dever has joined the cast in the role of Abby, and Catherine O’Hara is also on board in an undisclosed role. The second season may debut in 2025, but nothing is confirmed yet, so fans shouldn’t mark the calendars yet.
Season 4 of Only Murders in the Building will be set in Los Angeles. Additionally, Meryl Streep is set to reprise her role as Loretta Durkin in Season 4 of Hulu’s mystery-comedy. Molly Shannon will also guest star in an unknown role.
Season 4 of The Umbrella Academy set a release date - the final batch of episodes for the superhero-sibling-drama will be available on August 4 on Netflix.
Mara Brock Akil’s series adaptation of Judy Blume’s Forever finds its leads in Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. The series ordered in 2022 is a part of Brock Akil’s overall deal with Netflix.
Netflix dropped a Valentine’s Day sneak peek of season 3 of Bridgerton. The new season will focus on the budding romance between Colin and Penelope, and the first part drops on May 16th. (Yes, they’re doing that annoying two-part season drop again.)
CLEARING OUT OUR QUEUE
Or, what we’re watching this week.
Kara: Very excited to be watching Abbott Elementary weekly again (and loved all the Baltimore references in the premiere)! I’ve been jumping around and watching a random assortment of things this week. I finally started season 5 of What We Do in the Shadows and I also watched a couple episodes of Happy Endings. And if you care at all about the unscripted fare I’m watching, I am LOVING this season of The Bachelor because Joey is just so charming. I’ve also started the new season of Love is Blind that just dropped.
Adina: Really enjoyed seeing the Abbott Elementary premiere! Also watched the first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians with our other roommate, Kirsten. It’s weird to see a series I loved when I was the same age as the characters get adapted now, when I’m much older than the kids, but still a really fun show.
