TV TAKES A BREATHER?
This past week was rather light on premieres, featuring only Palm Royale on Apple TV+, X-Men ‘97 on Disney+, 3 Body Problem on Netflix, and The Long Shadow on AMC+.
Those few shows have a good amount of buzz, though. 3 Body Problem is based on the acclaimed sci-fi novel by Cixin Lu, and has been adapted to TV by David Benioff and DB Weiss (of Game of Thrones) and Alexander Woo. Early reviews are quite positive.
On a wildly different note, Palm Royale is a comedy set at a country club in 1969, starring Kristen Wiig, and has been described as a “joyfully delicious experience.”
Then, for those who can’t get enough of a good ol’ franchise, there’s X-Men ‘97, an animated show following on the ‘90s gem X-Men: The Animated Series.
It’s still a heartening week for fans of broadcast TV, as NBC has officially renewed many of its core week-to-week procedurals, including Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Law & Order, and Law & Order: SVU (no word on Organized Crime yet).
TV NEWS
Cillian Murphy will return for a Peaky Blinders movie, confirms creator Steven Knight. Even though he has an Oscar now, Murphy’s not too proud to reprise his role as Tommy Shelby in the film, which is set in the years leading up to World War II. Filming will begin later in 2024.
The Pete Davidson comedy, Bupkis, will not return for Season 2 despite being renewed. The semi-autobiographical show aired on Peacock, and the choice to end it wasn’t from the streamer, btu seemingly from the star himself. In a statement, Davidson affirmed that he was proud of te show, but also felt “that this part of my life is finished.”
Season 2 of Prime Video’s Gen V will film this summer. The spinoff of The Boys had an early renewal, so it’s not surprising that it’s coming promptly (by today’s standards).
The first scene of the Fallout TV adaptation has been released. The video game adaptation, starring Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins, will debut on Prime Video on April 11.
CLEARING OUT OUR QUEUE
Or, what we’re watching this week.
Kara: I’ve been kind of hooked on movies this week, but I have been watching some One Tree Hill still. No heart transplant yet, but hopefully soon.
Adina: I finished my Girls5Eva rewatch and got through Season 3, which was delightful, but the fact that it was only 6 episodes (not 8) caught me off guard! I continue to highly recommend it; I’m praying it gets enough attention for Netflix to consider it a worthy investment.
